Job Preview: 

University Village Thousand Oaks,  a resort-style continuing care retirement community, is seeking an IT Technician. This is an exciting opportunity to join an energetic team. .


Responsible for maintaining all computers and computer systems, workstations and other electronic systems as assigned including but not limited to closed circuit television system, phone system, multi-media/theater system, etc.  This will include trouble shooting and repairs to the equipment within the facility under limited supervision.  In addition, individual must be familiar with various programs. 


Essential Job Duties:

Must be able to maintain IT network, both the business and resident networks, troubleshoot, and/or coordinate repairs on systems and equipment (computers, servers, multi-media, phones, etc.) in timely fashion.

Assist IT Director or Network Administrator in network modifications, upgrades, and IT projects.

The ability to study, install, troubleshoot and repair computers and related applications such as Microsoft Office,  Internet, and communications software.

Responsible for the set up and record keeping of computer software and obtaining and tracking software licenses.

Possess the ability to prioritize, track, complete work orders/projects in a timely manner, and proactively communicate progress/delays to management.

Respond timely to management if/when systems issues arise in community, even if during off duty hours.   If issue requires immediate attention on call pay will be provided.  Must communicate to management in advance if will be unavailable.

Responsible to complete work orders, budgets, daily and monthly reports.  

Perform installations and upgrades to computer system.

 Install and configure software on computer system, as required.

 Work with residents in troubleshooting and repairing personal computer issues, installing routers, setting up emails, installing cable boxes, trouble shooting cable television issues.

Making network cables, installing cables, installing phone lines, cross connect, punch down phone lines on 66 block and punching down to a patch panel for networks, tone out cables.

 Working with outside vendors in placing orders for new equipments and replacement equipment, as well as using vendors in troubleshooting issues relating to cable television i.e. Time Warner.


Other Job Duties:

Maintain all tools, related equipment and supplies in clean operating condition at all times.

Required to keep accurate work records and inventories of hardware and software.  All work to be done in a professional manner.  High quality work practices, neatness, follow-up and clean-up are necessities.

Strict confidentiality is necessary due to the sensitivity of records and conversions.   Also includes security on all networks.

Required to perform any other duties or assume any other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Maintain effective working relationships with CL, LCS, Network Solutions, ITG, LTCS and any other IT vendors, consultants and software providers.  Demonstrate high customer service/hospitality to University Village residents and employees.



  1. High School diploma, or equivalent, required.   Certified accredited vocational training in computers required.

  2. Requires three to five years of experience in troubleshooting and repair of computer systems.  Requires experience in computer networks.

  3. Requires the ability to read and sort color-coded wires on a frequent basis.  Flow of work requires high level of mental / visual focus.

  4. Reasonable care is required at all times to prevent accidents or injury to others.  This position is subject to hazardous voltages so it requires the ability to recognize all potential hazards and the knowledge to avoid them.

  5. FBI and DOJ criminal record clearance.
